Alto Acceptable Use Policy

Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy explains the appropriate use of Alto.guru ("Alto") by students, teachers, parents and schools. Alto is an educational platform designed to support student learning and skill development.

All users are expected to use the service safely, respectfully and for educational purposes only.


Student Friendly Summary

Use Alto for learning and schoolwork.

Be respectful and responsible when using the platform.

Do not share your password with other students.

Do not try to damage, misuse or interfere with the service.

Tell your teacher or parent if something seems wrong, unsafe or inappropriate.


Acceptable Use

Users of Alto agree to:

  • Use Alto only for educational and school-related purposes.
  • Follow instructions provided by their school or teacher.
  • Keep login details secure and private.
  • Use respectful and appropriate language when interacting with teachers or support staff.
  • Access only their own account and information unless authorised by the school.
  • Use the platform in a way that does not disrupt other users or the operation of the service.

Prohibited Use

Users must not:

  • Share passwords or allow others to access their account.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to Alto systems, data or other user accounts.
  • Attempt to hack, damage, disrupt or overload the platform.
  • Upload or distribute harmful software, inappropriate material or offensive content.
  • Use Alto for non-educational commercial purposes.
  • Misrepresent their identity or impersonate another person.
  • Use automated tools, bots or scripts to interfere with the operation of the service.

Student Safety

Alto is designed to minimise online safety risks for students.

  • Alto does not provide public social networking functionality.
  • Students cannot directly message unrelated users through the platform.
  • Schools and teachers supervise student usage.
  • Alto limits the collection of personal information from students.
  • Users are encouraged to report concerns to their teacher, school or Alto support.

Privacy and Security

Alto takes reasonable steps to protect personal information and platform security.

Users should:

  • Keep passwords secure.
  • Log out of shared devices where appropriate.
  • Report any suspected security issues immediately.

Personal information is handled in accordance with the Alto Privacy Policy.


School Responsibilities

Schools and teachers are responsible for:

  • Supervising student use of the platform.
  • Managing student access where applicable.
  • Informing students of appropriate online behaviour expectations.

Breaches of this Policy

Failure to comply with this policy may result in:

  • Temporary or permanent suspension of access;
  • Notification to the user's school;
  • Investigation of inappropriate activity; and/or
  • Further action where required by law.
